The Promising Practices in Afterschool (PPAS) Listserv has a network with over 2,350 registered and active subscribers. The purpose is to provide dynamic, current, useful information to the afterschool community in a range of areas from “news” and “promising practices” to “new funding opportunities” and “professional development”. As the www.afterschool.org website and the PPAS Listserv have an increasing number of international visitors, AED also strives to meet the informational needs of a globally recognized Listserv in a high-quality and timely manner.

The AED Center for Youth Development (www.afterschool.org) is one of the most widely used afterschool websites, a well-established national resource in the field that increasingly draws international visitors as the concept of afterschool is both recognized and utilized as a proven avenue for active engagement and promoting positive youth behaviors around the world. The Promising Practices Database currently houses over a hundred practices that were submitted and reviewed by a panel of afterschool experts and deemed “promising” that address the following areas :
• Community and Family Involvement
• Programming (e.g. conservation/environment)
• Management and Administration
• Staffing and Training
• Financing
• Research, Evaluation and Knowledge Base
• Policy and Advocacy
In addition, afterschool providers, front-line workers, parents, and researchers can download and link to resources on professional development opportunities, funding strategies, and research and reports from the afterschool field.
